TomTom fleet management is being used in a pioneering driver education project operated by the Energy Saving Trust in Scotland.
The project will see the sustainable energy charity work with four public sector organisations in a bid to improve fuel efficiency and emissions levels across their transport operations.
This will be achieved by using a combination of TomTom technology and the Energy Saving Trust's Fuel Efficient Driver Training to positively influence driver behaviour.
‘Our Fuel Efficient Driver Training can help organisations save on fuel costs year after year and TomTom's technology helps fleet operators monitor and manage their drivers to ensure these savings are realised’ said Ian Murdoch, Transport Manager for Energy Saving Trust, Scotland.
‘It should be a no-brainer for any car and van operator as training only costs a few pounds and can literally save hundreds each year. Fuel efficient driver training can be organised by calling any Energy Saving Scotland advice centre’
The Energy Saving Trust worked with TomTom partner Vtec Solutions to install TomTom units, including the LINK tracking box and ecoPLUS fuel management and diagnostics device, in 100 single driver-operated vehicles across the four organisations.
Fuel Efficient Driver Training is then provided to drivers and its effect is maximised through the use of TomTom technology. The Optidrive indicator enables managers to build an accurate profile of driver behaviour by analysing four key areas of performance – speeding, fuel efficiency, idling and braking – allowing training to be tailored accordingly.
To strengthen its drive for fleet efficiency, the Energy Saving Trust is also offering interest-free loans of up to £50,000 to businesses in Scotland which invest in technology or equipment aimed at making their transport operations greener.
Glazing and steel fabrication specialist Craig & Buchanan has used one such loan in order to install TomTom fleet management technology across its vehicle fleet.
‘The Energy Savings Trust represents an ideal partner for TomTom, as both organisations are focused on promoting best practice in the operation of vehicle fleets’ said Giles Margerison, Director UK & Ireland TomTom Business Solutions.
‘This scheme offers welcome advice and support to organisations, while bringing more awareness to the considerable savings and efficiency gains that can be made using TomTom fleet management solutions’
‘Through a careful investment in technology and a commitment to driver training, companies can implement an effective green policy at the same time as reducing operating costs’
