Crosswater achieves FORS accreditation by using telematics to improve efficiency

Crosswater has achieved a 20 per cent improvement in MPG across its vehicle fleet over a two-year period by using TomTom Telematics technology.

By improving fuel efficiency from 25 to 30.1 MPG and achieving a resultant decrease in CO2 emissions, the Kent-based firm has successfully achieved accreditation under the Fleet Operator Recognition Scheme (FORS).

FORS, which is run by Transport for London, aims to improve fleet activity across the UK by ensuring operators are committed to becoming safer, greener and more efficient.

Crosswater has achieved this by using TomTom WEBFLEET to monitor driver behaviour, allowing them to address any issues with their drivers and reduce unneccessary fuel usage. On top of that, TomTom’s ecoPLUS device provides real-time insight into fuel efficiency and CO2 emissions.

We deal with over 850 jobs per day and without a telematics system in place, we were spending a lot of money on what we now know are preventable fuel costs said Brett Westbrook, Transport Manager at Crosswater Holdings.

In terms of training, monitoring driver behaviour has made a huge difference. The OptiDrive reports and dashboards available in TomTom WEBFLEET are all invaluable when it comes to promoting fuel efficiency and safer, greener driving

TomTom OptiDrive profiles drivers based on key elements of safe and efficient driving, including speeding, ilding and harsh steering or braking. Crosswater management use this to gain quick insight into performance and identify the drivers and issues which are in need of improvement, drilling down further into the data where necessary.

There is an increased onus on businesses to reduce the environmental impact of their vehicle fleets and Crosswater has put itself at the front of the pack by implementing a programme to improve driver behaviour said Giles Margerison, Director UK & Ireland, TomTom Telematics.

Improved green credentials can be married with cost savings and greater efficiency simply by using the available data to generate smarter insights into fleet activity
