New tachograph rules and installation package deal for your fleet

Truck driver recording driving hours with smart tachograph version 2

Prepare your LCVs for new tachograph rules with Webfleet’s all-in-one package for fast, easy, fine-free deployment.

New tachograph rules for LCVs in 2026

This year, the scope of EU driving hours regulations extends to Light Commercial Vehicle (LCV) fleets, demanding hardware upgrades.

By July 2026, LCVs weighing 2.5 tonnes or more that are used in cross-border or cabotage operations, must be fitted with a smart tachograph 2 — also referred to as second generation tachograph or generation 2 version 2 (G2V2).

The rule applies to all vehicles meeting the weight and operational criteria, including electric vans and small trucks.

This regulation requirement is already in force for heavy goods vehicles (HGVs) — vehicles weighing 3.5 tonnes or more that are used internationally — since August 2025.

Vehicle typeRegulation enforcement
Vehicles weighing 3.5 tonnes or more (international transport and cabotage operations)August 2025
Vehicles weighing 2.5 tonnes or more (international transport and cabotage operations)July 2026

All drivers within the scope of this EU legislation must comply with the extended tachograph data retention period. Drivers are required to produce 56 days of tachograph records during a roadside inspection (previously only 28 days).

Your LCV smart tacho 2 package for smooth deployment

Upgrading your vehicles’ hardware sounds like a service scheduling and fleet availability headache.

That’s why Webfleet is providing an all-in-one compliance package for fast, easy adoption of smart tacho 2.

We’re partnering with Stonebridge to offer you certified installation and training on their Stonebridge Smart Tachograph Gen 2.

Why go for Webfleet’s LCV tachograph package deal?

  • Comply with EU regulation No 165/2014 and Driver Hours rules (Regulation (EC) No 561/2006), stress and doubt free.
  • Save downtime and disruption to operations by preparing early.
  • Support drivers with new devices, processes and policies for driver hours regulations with training from a certified installer.
  • Boost safety with visibility over social infringements and RDT.
  • Avoid fines by optimising route and work planning to ensure compliance.

What happens if you don’t comply with new tachograph rules

Missing the July 2026 deadline or installing a non-certified G2V2 tachograph could lead to the following sanctions.

  • Fines: anywhere between €2.5 and 13K, depending on the country issuing the fine.
  • Vehicle seizure: non-compliant vehicles identified during border or roadside inspections risk immobilisation, document retention and seizure.
  • Reputational damage: customers and partners may view your fleet as high-risk and terminate agreements.
  • Lost business: detentions cause delays and bottlenecks, leading to missed carry contracts and churning customers.

As the deadline approaches, certified installer availability will become increasingly limited. Book the Webfleet all-in-one package today to begin the implementation process early and get ahead of the competition.

Subsidies and financial incentives in select countries

Various EU countries grant subsidies to help fleets afford the smart tacho 2 installation costs.
